Foundation
hey dudes:
When you build a house, the most important thing is deciding where you're going to start. I mean you always hear "location location location!" but I think that it's more important that you make sure you're building on solid ground. The same can be said for your relationships, whether that's a boyfriend or girlfriend, a just friend, a family member, and most importantly, your relationship with God. Matthew 7: 24-25 says "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock" It is important that you set yourself up for success by building yourself a solid foundation in your relationship with God. Things like reading scripture and applying it, praying and worshiping are all examples of things you can do to make your relationship with God as strong as possible. It's important to have a strong foundation in your relationship with God because in quality relationships with the other people in your life, He need to be the foundation. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says "Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character." The best advice I've received about the people I hang with is that I should surround myself with people I wouldn't mind being, and by that I mean people with respectable character traits. Now this doesn't mean that we should ignore those who do bad, because brace yourself, we're all sinners and we have to be a light for God to those who need to find him still. But it does mean that if you spend all your time with non-christians, you might pick up some bad habits, so we need to make sure that we have "accountability partners", basically other christian friends that we can have God talks with, and I promise that those friendships will be the most meaningful since they have the best foundation. I leave you with one last verse, "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that is already laid, which is Jesus Christ" 1 Corinthians 3:11.
